A Lansford woman admitted trying to flee the office of a district judge where she had been taken to be arraigned on other charges.
Amy S. Burns was one of 11 defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before Carbon County Judge Joseph J. Matika.Lansford incidentBurns, 34, was arrested on Jan. 31 after police were called to the area of 14 W. Patterson St. for a disturbance. On scene officers entered the home and found Burns involved in a dispute with others in the home. She was taken into custody and then transported to the office of on-call DJ Joseph Homanko of Weatherly to be arraigned. At the office Burns managed to get out of the handcuffs and attempted to flee, striking officer Shawn Nunemacher in the face in the process. She was charged with aggravated assault and escape.Tuesday she pleaded to escape and simple assault with the aggravated assault and resisting arrest charges dropped in a plea bargain with the district attorney's office.Matika placed her on probation for a year on each count, running concurrently, and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, and render 50 hours of community service.Other pleasOther defendants entering pleas included:Zack Daniel Beddiges, 24, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of theft. He was charged by Mahoning Township police for the theft of a credit card belonging to Timothy Salaveig. A charge of access device fraud was dropped.He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance for D&A use, render 50 hours of community service, and make total restitution of $474.48.Jermaine James Ervine, 32, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on June 26 by Nesquehoning police following a traffic stop along Route 93.He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to render 50 hours of community service.Traven P. Greenzweig, 26, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on Oct. 1, 2013, in the area of 462 Lake Drive, Lake Hauto by Nesquehoning police. He was previously placed in the Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked for violating conditions.He also pleaded to one count of attempting to furnish a drug-free urine test. The incident occurred Nov. 14, 2014, at the adult probation office in the courthouse. Greenzweig appeared at the office for a drug scene that was part of a prior sentence. Jim Thorpe police filed the charge.He was placed on probation for a year on each count, running concurrently and ordered to get a D&A evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.Nicholas John Harris Jr., 40, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of retail theft filed by Lansford police for an incident on Sept. 29, 2014.Sentencing was deferred as Matika ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.Zachery Tyler Kantner, 20, of Hazle Township, pleaded to one count of retail theft. He was charged by Mahoning Township police for an incident on April 1 at the Walmart store in which a television was taken.Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered he make restitution of $905.18, get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for D&A use, and render 50 hours of community service.Christina Lynn Kieffer, 28, of Coaldale, pleaded to one count of retail theft. Nesquehoning police charged her with an incident at Redners Warehouse Market on April 13.She was placed on probation for a year and ordered to make restitution of $3.49, render 50 hours of community service and stay off Redners' property.Sheikh Ansumara Kosha, 29, of Philadelphia, pleaded to one count of access device fraud. He was arrested on March 3 by state police at Fern Ridge following a traffic stop along Route 940 in Kidder Township. Kosha was found to have in his possession numerous fraudulent credit cards.Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered he render 50 hours of community service.Katelynn Marie Solt, 22, of Weissport, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested on Jan. 26, 2014, in the area of 300 W. Catawissa St., by Nesquehoning police. She was previously placed in the ARD program but was revoked for violating conditions.She was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance for D&A use, and render 50 hours of community service.Tracy L. Sutton, 48, of East Stroudsburg, pleaded to one count each of retail theft and driving under suspension, both summaries. She was arrested on Dec. 20, 2013, by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store.Matika imposed fines totaling $400.Christopher John Vogel, 32, of Lansford, was charged by Lansford police on June 1 for failure to comply with registration requirements as a sexual offender.Matika deferred sentencing and ordered a presentence investigation report by the adult probation office.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
