Forty-one placed in Schuylkill County probation program
Judge D. Michael Stine retired on January 3 but was back in the Schuylkill County Court last week this time presiding as a senior judge at a hearing of 41 people seeking admission into the Accelerated Rehabilative Disposition (ARD) probation program, which is reserved for first offenders who are charged with a non-violent crime to allow them to clear their name. Only the district attorney can recommend anyone for this program and the judge can grant or deny the motion.
"You are not pleading guilty," Stine told the group, "but by agreeing to enter the program the charge against you is set aside until you complete the program. If you fail then your case goes back on the trial list.'
