The West End fire companies will come together to host a fireman’s festival tonight through Saturday.
Hours will be from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. today and Friday and held to 2:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The four fire companies involved are Blue Ridge Hook and Ladder, Polk Township Fire Company, West End Fire Company, and Kunkletown Fire Company. The festival will be at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert.
“It all came about when Kunkletown had to quit doing their carnival,” Randy Cramer said. He helped orchestrate the festival, and has been involved with West End fire companies his whole life.
“West End doesn’t do their carnival anymore,” he said. “We just kind of said let’s try to do something with all four of the companies in the West End.”
The money made from the three-day festival will be split four ways between the fire companies.
“There are people in the West End who do not know, believe it or not, that these people are volunteers,” Cramer said referring to the firefighters.
Live entertainment tonight will be provided by Chris Eckert, followed by Lenny & the Loafers.
On Friday, Chuck Seese Trivia and Brian Dean Moore Band will be on stage.
Entertainment on Saturday will be Last One Standing featuring Rikki Lee, Jesse Wade, Steel Creek Band, Nick Hawk, and Cramer Brothers band.
There will also be food, rides, and games for the whole family. The fire companies will be offering food for sale.
It is only $5 per car, and it is recommended to bring lawn chairs. There will be fireworks at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. The Monroe County County Control Center will be there, as well as a MedEvac air transportation.
