Boy on scooter is shot in Monroe

A 17-year-old boy was shot in the abdomen while he was riding a scooter on Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the Emerald Lakes development in Long Pond, Monroe County, according to Pocono Mountain Regional Police.

Police said the boy was transported by the Pocono Mountain Regional EMS corps to the Community Medical Center, Scranton, where he underwent emergency surgery for the gunshot wound.Police said the teenager was riding the scooter on Glade Drive South in the development when a gold or beige Jeep Wrangler approached him. As the Jeep passed the boy, he was shot and fell to the ground, after which time the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed towards Long Pond Road.Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them at (570) 895-2400.
