Tamaqua High School hosting blood drive to honor Kyle Martin

Tamaqua High School, 600 Penn St., Tamaqua, will be hosting a replacement blood drive on from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 11.

The blood drive is being held in the name of accident victim Kyle Martin, a Tamaqua High School student who was seriously injured in an automobile accident in October. Martin received multiple transfusions as part of his care."Our regional hospitals require over 450 units of blood every day to care for their patients, which include burn victims, as well as premature infants, trauma victims and cancer patients," explains Marie D'Amato, donor resources representative. "Therefore, it is vital that blood used today be replaced today, to ensure it is available for the next person in need."In order to donate blood, individuals must be 17 years of age or older, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be feeling healthy; they must not have donated in the past eight weeks. All donors must also provide valid photo identification. Walk-ins are welcome at this blood drive. For more information or to pre-register for donation, contact Cathy Miorelli RN at (570) 668-1901.
