Two charged in Nesquehoning drug bust

Nesquehoning police have charged two borough residents with drug offenses. The arrests are linked to a third man who was arrested on drug charges in April.

Sherry A. Jones, 51, faces charges of criminal conspiracy (unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver or manufacture a controlled substance), and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arraigned before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.Mark Focht, 35, faces charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He too was arraigned before Kosciolek and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Police Chief Sean Smith, here's how the investigation led to Jones' arrest:Between March 1 and March 7, 2014, Smith had an informant buy a half-gram of crystal methamphetamine for $100 from Vito Focht (who was charged with drug offenses in April and released on $50,000 unsecured bail) in the 200 block of Catawissa Street. Three other officers watched the buy.Between April 6 and April 11, 2014, the informant again bought a half gram of crystal methamphetamine from Focht for $100, this time on West Columbus Avenue and again was watched by officers.Another controlled buy was made from Focht between April 20 and April 25, 2014.On Jan. 2, 2015, Jones came to the police station on another matter, and Smith confronted her about selling crystal meth from her home. Jones told Smith she knew he'd been watching her. She said she did use the drug, and transported it for someone else, a quarter ounce to a half ounce a week. Smith asked who supplied the drug, and Jones said she thought it was someone from Weissport, but didn't know the person's name.Jones said she knew Focht, who had bought crystal meth from the person for whom she transported the drug. Focht helped the person sell the drug, she said.Jones told Smith she knew he was trying to get her for selling meth from her house. She said she would sell and "mule" meth for someone and used to buy the drug from a Patsy Jones. She'd been selling from her house for three or four years, she said.Smith asked her when she last used the drug, and she told him about two weeks ago.Another affidavit described how the investigation of Focht unfolded:On April 25, 2014, police searched Vito Focht's house at 25 W. Columbus Ave. There was no one home except Vito's son, Mark Focht. Police found in Vito and Linda Focht's bedroom digital scales, rolling papers, a side-by-side shotgun with an 18-inch barrel, plastic bags with (cocaine) residue, a plastic bag with clear rock/crystal (methamphetamine), pills, hemostats, multiple bowls with burnt marijuana residue and other items.Mark Focht admitted to smoking marijuana in his room.
