H. Bruce Geiger of Tamaqua, who was appointed assistant executive director of the Schuylkill County Intermediate Unit, resigned Monday night after serving just three weeks on the job.

The Tamaqua Area School Board accepted Geiger’s resignation at the January meeting. He had been curriculum director for the district and had worked for the school system for 17 years before resigning in December.

The letter of resignation from the IU, at a $19,600 annual salary, came as a surprise. A spokesman said, “We didn’t expect that Geiger had any intention of retiring.”

The Tamaqua school board will meet Thursday to consider Geiger’s application for his former position.
