Only two of eight municipalities in Northern Carbon County had General Election races on Tuesday, with the voters having settled issues in Weatherly Borough and Lehigh Township. Meanwhile, in Banks, Lausanne, Lehigh and Packer townships and Beaver Meadows and East Side boroughs, there were no contests.

WeatherlyThe Republicans swept the borough council race in the borough, where four four-year terms were up for grabs.The top vote-recipient was Joseph E. D'Andrea, who tallied 384 votes, followed by Norman B. Richie, 331, Harold "Chipper" Farrow, 326, and Cecelia "Cece" Gower, 289. Failing to win a seat were Democrats Robert R. Chippi, 258, Timothy J. Williams, 215, and Jeffery L. Barnes, 123.Tax Collector Sandra E. Eroh was unopposed in pursuit of another four-year term and collected 503 complimentary votes, while Democrat Richard C. Giordano was unchallenged for the six-year term as constable and received 294 token votes.Other vote totals for poll positions in Weatherly included:District 58 - Democrat Mildred Selert, 290, for judge of elections; and Democrat Theresa I. D'Andrea, 236, and Republican Virginia L. Houser, 135, for inspector of elections.District 61 - Republican Ruth Sabol, 131, for inspector of elections.Lehigh TownshipRepublican Larry Skinner won a six-year term on the township's board of supervisors, defeating Democrat Barbara A. Tissier by a margin of 97-50.The township's longtime tax collector, Teresa M. Barna, was unopposed and appeared on both ballots. She collected 141 token votes while being re-elected to another four-year term.There was only one other candidate on the township's ballot and that was Republican Glennys D. Sanute, who ran unopposed for the six-year term as auditor and received 126 votes. No one ran for the four-year term as auditor nor the six-year term as constable.Skinner was unopposed for judge of elections and received 120 token votes while the balloting for inspector of elections had Republican Sharlene Strauss getting 97 votes and Tissier collecting 42.Banks TownshipFour Democrats who were on the Banks Township ballot yesterday were all unopposed.Tax Collector Irene Makowiec was the top vote-getter with 278 votes in being re-elected to a four-year term, while Supervisor Rick Porpiglia had 174 votes in being re-elected to a six-year term.The other candidates were Geraldine W. Gelatko, 271, running for auditor, and Bruce Knepper, 251, for a six-year term as constable.For judge of elections, Democrat Joseph W. Clark received 292 votes and for inspector of elections, party member Gloria Dercole had 270 votes.Lausanne TownshipThere were only two candidates on the Lausanne Township ballot yesterday.Supervisor Joseph A. Halechko III, a Democrat, ran unopposed for re-election to a six-year term of office. He received 26 complimentary votes.Tax Collector Carol Tulay was re-elected to another four-year term with 31 token votes. She is a Democrat as well.No one ran for the six-year or four-year terms as auditors, nor the six-year term as constable.For judge of elections, Democrat Mary Romanek received 31 votes and for inspector of elections, Democrat Dolores M. Surochak had 23 votes, and Republican Helen E. Vishnesky collected 7.Packer TownshipLike Lausanne, Packer Township's ballot had no contests, as there were only three candidates.Longtime Tax Collector Joan L. Hinkle, a Republican, ran unopposed for re-election to a four-year term. She received 203 "comp" votes.Supervisor William E. Swinesburg, also a GOP member, was unchallenged for re-election to another six-year term in the board. He collected 192 token votes.Republican William T. Wilkinson was unopposed for the six-year term as constable and received 174 token votes.There were no candidates in Packer for three terms as auditor (2, 4 and 6 years).For judge of elections, John J. Walters Jr. had 206 votes and for inspector of elections, Eleanor M. Walters had 209 votes. Both are Republicans.Beaver Meadows BoroughFive incumbent officeholders in the borough were unopposed yesterday.Mayor William E. Hines, a Democrat, was re-elected to another four-year term with 138 token votes, while Tax Collector E. Kathleen Moro was returned to office for another four years with 158 complimentary votes.In the race for four four-year terms on the council, there were only two candidates. Incumbents Democrat Jeffrey S. Bobish and Republican Mary A. Rayno were returned to office with 113 and 112 votes, respectively, while Democrat Joseph R. Sando was re-elected to a six-year term as constable with 163 token votes.No one ran for either the two-year or six-year terms as auditors in the borough.For inspector of elections, Democrat Annette M. Rusnock had 103 votes while Republican Marie Toth collected 71.East Side BoroughThere were no races to be decided in East Side Borough.Tax Collector Lisa Jones, a Republican, was re-elected to another four-year term with 37 complimentary votes.In the council's race, where there were three four-year terms up for grabs, there were only three candidates. Token votes went to Democrats Elizabeth Berger, 33, and Sharon Mrozinski, 31, and Republican Helen Jones, 37.No one ran for the four-year term as mayor, the two-year term on council, two-year term as assessor or six-year term as constable.For judge of elections, Mrozinski received 31 votes, and for inspector of elections, Jones garnered 37 votes.Weatherly School BoardThe race for seats on the Weatherly Area School District Board of Education was settled prior to yesterday too. There were four four-year terms up for grabs, for which there were only four candidates.Corey Gerhart was the top vote-getter with 850 votes, followed by Joanne N. Dougherty, 753 and John Toth Jr., 743. All three were cross-filed candidates. The fourth candidate, Bonita Barbush, appeared only on the GOP ballot and finished with 602 votes.Voters in Lausanne, Lehigh and Packer townships and East Side and Weatherly boroughs vote for school district representatives, as do voters in Kidder Township North.Hazleton School BoardThe voters in Banks Township and Beaver Meadows participated in balloting for seats on the Hazleton Area School District Board of Education, where the four candidates for four four-year terms were all unopposed. Their totals in the two Carbon municipalities were: Bob Mehalick, 361, Carmella Yenkevich, 354, Steven Hahn, 326, and Clarence H. John, 325.
