North Carbon County seniors lead on first day
With one day of competition complete, Northern Carbon County seniors from Panther Valley, Jim Thorpe and Weatherly are leading the pack in points during the 2016 Carbon County Senior Games with a combined score of 128.
But who will capture the Commissioners' Cup? Will it be Southern Carbon County, which is made up of Lehighton and Palmerton seniors, or the returning champs of Northern Carbon County? Only time will tell.Senior Games officials report that Lehighton's score for the day is 65 and their teammate in the final tally, Palmerton, has a score of 27, bringing the combined team's score to 92; while Panther Valley has 63; Jim Thorpe, 57; and Weatherly, 8.With a close race starting to form, it's anybody's guess who will be this year's top dog.The first-day events included shuffleboard and cornhole toss.A point system is attached to each medal.
