Tamaqua Police responded to Depot Square Park at 7:41 p.m. on Aug. 21 after receiving a report about a person armed with a weapon.

At the gazebo, officers spoke with Dustin Gene Starkey, 18, of East Elm Street, Tamaqua. Starkey admitted he was carrying a meat cleaver in the pocket of his cargo pants, saying he was carrying the weapon because he had been threatened and harassed by another man.Starkey will be charged with carrying a prohibited weapon.
