School lunches
Due to a federal mandate, the Tamaqua Area School District has raised the price of a school lunch for the 2011-2012 school year. As of Aug. 30, the cost of a school lunch will be $2.30 at the senior high and middle schools, and $2.05 at the district's three elementary schools.For further information, visit the district's website at

The 82 members in attendance enjoyed a meal catered by Christy Joy.The afternoon included a Chinese auction, card playing and bingo.The group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. Every meeting is followed by social and pinochle games.South WardThe South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet Aug. 18, at 7 p.m., in the South Ward Community Center, at the South Ward Playground. The public is welcome to attend.St. Peter's UnionThe Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville.
