The Tamaqua Elementary Parent Teacher Organization, which provides support for students in the Tamaqua and Rush Elementary Schools, will meet at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 12, in the Tamaqua Elementary School Library.Topics for discussion will include activities for the 2011-2012 school year, including school projects, field trips, fundraisers and more.Open house sessions have been scheduled for both schools.At Tamaqua Elementary, open house will be held Sept. 21 in two sessions: grades 2 and 3 from 6-7:30 p.m.; grades 4 and 5 from 7:30-9 p.m.At the Rush Elementary School, open house will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Sept. 22.The first dance for the school year, for students in grades 3-5, will be held from 7-9 p.m., Sept. 30, in the Tamaqua Elementary School gym. Chaperones are needed.9/11 serviceThe annual Tamaqua Area 9/11 Remembrance Service will be held Sept. 11 at the Hometown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on SR54 in Hometown.The event will begin at 2 p.m. Richard Hadesty will again serve as master of ceremonies and guest speakers include many local dignitaries and military veterans.This year marks the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on America.The service will be sponsored by the South Ward Playground Association, as it has every year.The public is welcome to attend.SS. Peter and PaulThe Holy Name Society of SS. Peter and Paul Church will meet this Thursday, at 8 p.m. The meeting will be preceded by a Mass at 7:30 p.m.The Parish Anniversary Committee will meet at 7 p.m., Sept. 12, in the rectory.Calvary UMThe Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at this Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. Special music will be offered in celebration of Grandparents Day. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.Church activities return to the church facilities this Sunday instead of at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle.Also on Sunday, an evening of praise, worship and Bible study will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Tabernacle Family Life Pavilion.Wednesday prayer and praise services are held at 7 p.m. in the church.
