Teacher accused of secretly taking lewd photos of girls

A Spanish teacher at a Pennsylvania high school was charged Wednesday with secretly taking lewd photos and videos of girls during school hours.

Gaspare Gambino, 34, of Honesdale, zoomed in on girls’ breasts and under their skirts and dresses while sitting at his desk at Honesdale High School, state police said.

He allegedly stored the images in Google’s cloud service, where a search of Gambino’s account revealed photos and videos of 14 girls, authorities said.

Gambino didn’t immediately return messages seeking comment. Court documents don’t list a defense attorney who could speak on his behalf.

Gambino, a teacher at Wayne Highlands School District in the Pocono Mountains since 2015, was suspended with pay after the images came to light in September, the school district said.

The lewd material was accidentally discovered by a student in Gambino’s class.

Gambino had assigned a project that required students to use their school-issued iPads and loaned his own iPad to a student who had forgotten to bring his to class, a police affidavit said. The student tried logging into his Google Drive account but wound up in Gambino’s account.

The student opened the photos tab and “observed photos of several young teenage girls” that showed “close-ups of the female genitalia and breasts,” state police wrote in an affidavit. The girls had clothes on, the affidavit said.

Gambino took the images while seated at his desk and from other locations around the school, police said.

The student showed the material to other students in the class, and they reported Gambino to school administrators later that day, after Gambino had gone home.

Gambino tried deleting the Google files after he was suspended, police said.
