A Palmerton man was sentenced to a county prison term last week in Carbon County court after pleading guilty to a drug possession court.
He was one of eight defendants in pending drug-related cases to enter a plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.Palmerton incidentMichael Paul Rehrig, 33, was arrested on April 3 in the area of the Bomber Grille along Mauch Chunk Road in Palmerton when borough police responded to a reported disturbance. On scene officers found Rehrig, and while taking him into custody they found heroin and marijuana.Rehrig is currently serving a prison term for a parole violation of six months that began May 27.Nanovic sentenced him to serve four to 12 months in prison and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment. The jail term runs concurrent with the parole violation and he was granted work release privileges.Drug dealerMichael Allen Richardson, 24, of Lehighton, pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance - heroin.Richardson was arrested on Feb. 28, 2014, when state police at Lehighton received information that Richardson was selling drugs out of his motel room at Mooney's Motel in Franklin Township. Police went to the room with a search warrant and found various drugs and drug paraphernalia in the room.On Nov. 9, 2015, Richardson pleaded guilty to another count of possession with intent to deliver before Judge Joseph J. Matika. Matika deferred sentencing so Richardson could apply for placement in the state's Intermediate Punishment program.Nanovic was told his evaluation was denied because of the instant case. He will reapply for placement in the program. The program runs for two years, which includes a period of time in prison, then an intensive inpatient treatment program followed by time in a halfway house. If a person fails to complete the program they are brought back and resentenced.Nanovic deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.Other pleasOther defendants entering pleas in drug-related cases included:Moriah J. Turner,27, of New Ringgold, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.She was arrested on April 29, 2015, by Lansford police who were investigating a hit-and-run incident in the borough. Turner was found in a vehicle with the paraphernalia.Nanovic placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use.Kevin Anthony Gardo,47, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana.He was arrested on May 13, 2015, in the area of Grange Road in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton.Nanovic imposed a fine of $250.Eliza J. Lesko,28, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.She was arrested on April 17 by Lehighton police in the area of the300 block of North Second Street. Police responded to a domestic incident involving Lesko and her mother, who found a syringe in her bedroom and became upset with her daughter and called police.Nanovic placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to get a D&A evaluation and zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use.Richey Alan Tartaglia,27, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on Nov. 16, 2015, by state police at Lehighton following a vehicle stop along Route 248 in Lower Towamensing Township. Tartaglia was a passenger in the vehicle and was taken into custody because of an outstanding warrant for his arrest issued to Palmerton police. The paraphernalia was found during a pat-down.Nanovic placed him on probation for a year and ordered he get a D&A evaluation and zero tolerance for D&A use.Joshua Michael Vacula,23, of Tamaqua, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on April 1, 2015, by Weatherly police following a speeding stop.Nanovic placed him on probation for a year and imposed zero tolerance for D&A use.Nicholas Ryan Sickonic,23, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on Oct. 27, 2014, at Lehigh Avenue and Second Street by Palmerton police.Sickonic is currently in the county prison on a probation violation awaiting action by the court.Nanovic placed him on probation for a year and ordered him to get a D&A evaluation and zero tolerance for D&A use.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
