GETTYSBURG (AP) — A Pennsylvania woman has been sentenced to six to 20 years in prison in the shooting death of her live-in boyfriend.
Thirty-nine-year-old Shawna Harman Lacoste pleaded guilty last month to voluntary manslaughter in the March 2017 death of 48-year-old Tracy Williams in Tyrone Township.
Adams County Judge Thomas Campbell on Monday called the case “a tragedy in the truest sense of the word,” noting that family and friends from both sides had suffered a loss.
Lacoste told the court she takes full responsibility, but Williams became unpredictable while he drank and she believed that she was in danger. She said “Despite all this I loved him.”
Defense attorney Steve Rice said they would have liked to have seen less time, but there are currently no plans to appeal.
