Weatherly area woman is 96 years old

Lois "Sands" Holman, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, celebrated her 96th birthday on Nov. 1.

Born in Hazleton, she graduated from Weatherly High School. She was married to Allan Williams for 47 years until his death in 1979; and was married to David Holman Sr. for 10 years until he died in 2000.She is a member of the Weatherly Presbyterian Church and has received honorary membership from the Board of National Missions.Lois is a member of the Hazleton Chapter of the American Red Cross and received recognition for more than 50 years of service. She was instrumental in starting the Red Cross Bloodmobile in Weatherly and was a volunteer worker in the Hazleton Red Cross office during World War II. She is a member of flower clubs in Hazleton and Weatherly and held several offices, including president.A member of the Weatherly Alumni Association, she has received awards of appreciation for service to her community from the Weatherly Lions Club and the Weatherly American Legion.Lois is a member of the Weatherly Senior Citizens Club, Order of the Eastern Star (OES) and is past president of the Knights Templar Auxiliary. Her hobbies have included gardening, bird watching, baking cookies, working crossword puzzles, reading, and watching antique shows.
