China City opens in West Penn

Authentic Chinese cuisine has come to West Penn Township.

China City opened its doors earlier this month in the Village Centre Mall, 2083 West Penn Pike, located at the intersection of Routes 309 and 895 in the Village of Snyders.Alfonso Martinez, a member of the West Penn Township Board of Supervisors, officially welcomed China City owner Tony Lin to the township on Oct. 19.Lin is no stranger to the restaurant business. He arrived in the United States from China at age 28. His sister had operated a restaurant, and Lin, now 50, opened his first business in Albany, New York. He has also had Chinese restaurants in Mountaintop, Palmerton and New Tripoli, where he has lived with his family, including his three children, for the past seven years.Lin opeated China II in New Tripoli before opening China City.The busy intersection and proximity to E-Z Market means high visibility and a good traffic flow for the restaurant.''Since we opened here, we've been so busy,'' said Lin. ''People come in every day and try different things.''China City features a variety of Chinese foods, utilizing beef, poultry and seafood dishes and ranging from Lo Mein, fried rice and Egg Foo Young to eggrolls, Mo Goo Gai Pan and General Tso's chicken.Lin said that among his specialties are beef with broccoli and Szechuan-style shrimp. Spice can be altered according to taste, for those who prefer hot and spicy dishes.Food is available for dining in as well as take out. Lin said customers are welcome to bring a bottle of wine to enjoy with their meal.The hours at China City are, Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sundays and holidays, 12 noon to 10 p.m.The phone numbers for China City are (570) 386-1230 and (570) 386-1231.
