The races for mayor and seats on council in both Tamaqua and Coaldale highlight the local races for next week's General Election.

TamaquaDemocratic incumbent Mayor Christian P. Morrison is seeking a second term and is being challenged by the man he defeated four years ago, Republican Richard Hadesty, Sr. Morrison was also challenged in the primary by councilman Steven Tertel but won an easy victory.There are three seats up for election to borough council with five canidates seeking the positions. Incumbent borough council president Micah Gursky is in the drivers' seat having captured both the GOP and Demo nominations in the primary vote. Seeking the remaining two seats are Republicans John Trudich Jr., an incumbent, and newcomer David Mace.Two Democrats also seek the posts. They are Thomas J. McCabe and and Justin D. Startzel. Startzel was appointed to the spot by the Democratic party after Joseph R. Salla Jr., who won the nomination in the primary decided to drop out of the race.Incumbent tax collector Alan R. Kerr is unopposed.CoaldaleIn Coaldale there is a race for seats on borough council.Three positions are up for election. On the GOP side the candidates are Susan Solt, David Yelito and David Christman. They are being opposed by Joseph Hnat and Angela M. Krapf.For mayor the Republican hopefull is Harry R. Hontz while is Democatic opponent is Richard P. Corkery. Catherine P. Papesh has both nominations for tax collector.TownshipsHere is a rundown of the area townships.In West Penn Township James E. Akins won both nominations in the primary for a six year term as supervisor. He defeated GOP incumbent Randy Troxell and there were no Democratic challengers.Helene Zeigler is unopposed for tax collector.In Rush Township Robert Leibensperger Jr. defeated Jeaninne Motroni and Jason Davis for the GOP nod in the primary for six year term as supervisor. He also won the Democratic nod on write-in votes.Dolores Walck is the lone candidate for tax collector having both nominations.In Schuylkill Township Maureen Vanek won the GOP nod for six year term supervisor and is the lone name on the ballot for Tuesday. Paul Delpais is unopposed for tax collector.In Walker Township Bill McMullen won both nominations for six year term supervisor in the primary and is unopposed Tuesday.In Ryan Township the races were decided in the primary. For supervisor is incumbent Clyde Champ Holman and William G. Wildoner for tax collector.In Kline Township there is a race for six year term supervisor. Democrat Eugene P. Moisey is facing Republican Carmen Cara. Michael Notaro Jr. is the lone candidate for tax collector.In Blythe Township the races were decided in the primary. Adam Nothstein won for six year term supervisor and Joan Dranginis for tax collector.In Delano Township the GOP had the only candidates. Unopposed today is Randal J. Winning nominations for council in the primary were Edward J. Braukus, Thomas W. Rowan, Robert J. Rulavage and Nora Zimmerman. A two year seat on council was won by William L. Martin Jr. Demo Frances Gates seeks another term as mayor and Robert J. Frantz is the lone candidate for tax collector.In Mahanoy City Nancy A. Petritsch won both nominations for mayor in the primary and is unopposed.There is a race for three seats on borough council, four year terms. The Demo hopefuls are Raymond Cavenas, Thom Maziekas and Thomas E. Oblas. The Republicans seeking the seats are Sean D. MacLeary, John Rogers and Anthony Blackwell Sr.There is also a contest for tax collector, four year term. The Demo candidate is Vikki L. Ball taking on GOPer Lynn Hanrahan.In Middleport the races were decided in the primary. Michael J. Kilousky won the Demo nod for mayor and is unopposed. Gene Heisner and Joseph Skripko were the lone Demo candidates for borough council seats.In McAdoo there is races for mayor, tax collector and borough council.Incumbent Democratic Mayor Stephen R. Holly is being challenged by GOPer Dane Watro. For tax collector Andrew T. DeBalko is the Demo hopefull facing William J. Sloik, GOP.There are three seats up for council. The Demo candidates are Joseph A. Madochick, John J. Shigo and Clarea Preputnick. The Republican candidates are Edward J. Bielen Sr., Brian E. Kolbush and Daniel G. Borchick.
