Tigers top Green Knights
The Northwestern girls’ soccer team picked up a win over Pen Argyl on Wednesday, while Tamaqua rolled to a victory over North Schuylkill.
In cross country action, the Tamaqua boys and girls earned a sweep in a Schuylkill League meet. The Weatherly boys accomplished the same feat to move into a tie for the Schuylkill League Division 2 lead.
Elsewhere, Lehighton and Northwestern grabbed victories in field hockey action, while the Marian volleyball team defeated rival Nativity.
GIRLS SOCCER
Pen Argyl-Northwestern
Four different players scored as Northwestern posted a 4-1 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.
Maggie Motolese, Sara Hathaway, Hallie Bleam and Kayla Bardonner all scored for the Tigers.
Motolese, Bleam, Jenna Lowthert and Lexi Bleam all contributed with assists.
Tamaqua-North Schuylkill
A quick start helped Tamaqua register an 11-5 Schuylkill League Division 1 win over North Schuylkill.
Sophia Boyle’s hat trick highlighted an eight-goal first half for the Raiders. Jamie Zuber scored twice, while Emma Kuczynski added two goals and an assist. Kayla Sherry, Katelyn Rudy, Sarah McCabe and Maura Walker also found the back of the net.
Tamaqua took the JV game, 3-0, with Caitlin Smith scoring twice. Terra Steigerwalt also had a goal.
Notre Dame GP-Northern Lehigh
Notre Dame of Green Pond blanked Northern Lehigh for a 5-0 Colonial League win.
Abby Wachter led the Crusaders with two goals and an assist, while Lexi DiSora was credited with two assists.
The Crusaders’ Mikayla Bates, Julene Crespo and Isabella Giamoni also scored.
Bulldogs’ keeper Erica Detwiler finished with 25 saves.
Salisbury-Palmerton
Salisbury cruised to a 6-0 Colonial League win over Palmerton.
Quinn Wittmann scored twice for the Falcons.
GOLF
EPC Championship
Northampton edged Emmaus for the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference team title, while Central Catholic’s Ian Arnold and Emmaus’ Michelle Cox earned boys and girls EPC individual gold medals at Woodstone Golf Club.
Arnold shot a 77 and came up two shots clear of the next-best boys players. Emmaus’ Mitch Machulsky (79) took second place by a match of cards.
Cox fired a 79 to take first place in the girls tournament, the second-straight league crown for the Green Hornet sophomore. Stroudsburg’s Olivia Patrow (84) was second.
Northampton and Emmaus tied at 327 in four-player team scores. Their fifth players’ scores were counted as a tiebreaker, which went to Northampton.
Pleasant Valley’s Alex Markowski shot 110 in the event, while teammates Steven Ottman and Harrison Hanyon both shot 111, and Henry Lui had a 115.

Lehighton, Pine Grove,
Pottsville at Tamaqua
The Tamaqua boys and girls ran away with a Schuylkill League meet sweep, while Lehighton went 2-1 on both sides.
Brandon Fogarty and Derian Stianche finished second and third, respectively, for the Blue Raiders, while Evan Beers followed right behind in fourth for the Indians’ best finish.
The Blue Raiders’ Frances Kabana, Brianna Dumond, Sarah Maue and Grace Stegmerten rounded out the top five with second, third, fourth and fifth-place results.
The Indians’ Kelsey Gaston (sixth), April Gerber (seventh), Madison Cresseley (eighth) and Paige Wehr (ninth) all recorded top 10 finishes.

The Weatherly boys swept a Schuylkill League meet, while the Lady Wreckers finished 2-1 on the day.
Scotty Zoscin crossed the finish line in first place for the Wrecker boys, who are now tied for the Division 2 lead. Teammates Frank Willis (fifth), Anthony Maguschak (sixth) and Ricky Ray (eighth) all grabbed top 10 finishes.
Abigail Hernandez led the Lady Wreckers with a fifth-place finish, while Nicole Gordon, Makenna Bankes and Elizabeth Marshman ended up in sixth, seventh and 10th, respectively.

Tess Ledebor’s first-half goal was all Northwestern needed to score a 1-0 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.
The Tigers’ Sydney Derr was credited with the assist.
NW keeper Taylor Page finished with two saves to preserve the shutout.

Marian-Nativity
Marian came out on top with a 25-23, 25-13, 25-19 Schuylkill League victory over Nativity.
Tatianna Zeleniak paced the Fillies’ attack with 14 assists, 12 digs and four aces, while Antonina Zeleniak followed with 14 digs.
Alivia Karchner (five kills) and Macie Mazaluski (11 digs) also contributed to the win.
