A Carbon County woman admitted in the county court on Friday to resisting arrest while intoxicated.

She entered a guilty plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Amber Colleen Defiore, 24, of Lehighton, also pleaded to public drunkenness for an incident on Aug. 3 in Mahoning Township.

Police responded to the Walmart store for a report of multiple people attempting to commit retail theft.

While en route police were notified that the suspects had left in a vehicle. While looking for the vehicle the police spotted Defiore along Ashtown Drive in a field. She ran and was pursued by police who eventually caught up with her.

She then struggled with officers while being placed under arrest.

Defiore, who Matika noted was no stranger to the court because of prior multiple convictions, told the court she has a heroin addiction problem.

Matika also noted she has an 8-year-old son.

Noting how many times she had been in jail over the past year or more, Matika said, “He may not remember who you are.”

On the resisting count Matika sentenced her to time-served (110 days) to one year in jail and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 50 hours of community service.

On the drunkenness charge she was fined $100.

Defiore won’t be released from custody despite the time-served sentence.

Matika noted she has two detainers filed against her by adult probation offices in Carbon and Lehigh counties.
