Mahoning Township Police are investigating an incident in which a small roller, used for road projects, was driven into a deep ditch.
Chief of Police Kenneth J. Barnes said the incident happened between 3:30 and 8 p.m. Wednesday on Orioles Drive between Hemlock Drive and Beisel's Road.It was pulled from the ditch at about 7:30 a.m. yesterday and is working, Barnes said. There does not appear to be any damage.According to the police department, the township road department had been doing work on Orioles Drive for the past several days. He said various road equipment was used on the project.The roller was left along Orioles Drive overnight because of the project.Barnes said the roller's starting mechanism was engaged without a key and it was driven up Orioles Drive for about a quarter mile. The roller was then intentionally driven into the ditch along the side of the road and was left running.Upon being notified of the matter, Road Department Supervisor Ron Reeser responded to the scene and turned-off the roller.Barnes urged that anyone with information regarding this act of criminal mischief is urged to call the police department at (570) 386-2241 or the Carbon County Telecommunications Center.
