Prothonotary’s report

A total of case 212 were started in February in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of cases is as follows:

Civil actions, 33; custody complaints, 10; complaints to modify custody, 10; district justice appeals, 5; divorce complaints, 15; complaint in ejectment, 1; license appeals, 3; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 15; name change petitions, 2; protection from abuse petitions, 24; quiet title actions, 2; replevin complaint, 1; auditor/financial report, 1; judgments, 75; miscellaneous cases, 3; stipulations/waivers of liens, 4; and writs of executions, 8.

The office also processed 129 passport applications and rendered assistance to the public with 53 passport renewal applications.

Behrens’ financial report for February shows $29,676 was generated as follows: prothonotary’s fees, $23,049.27; interest income, $6.13; custody/divorce fees, $2,804.30; PFA Surcharge, Sheriff; $75; PFA Surcharge, Courts; $86.30; data processing fees, $2,924.50; stenographer fees, $730.50; and remote access fees, $1,500.

The prothonotary also remitted $4,261.27 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $32 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $838.60 was deposited in the Prothonotary’s Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
