Tamaqua Area School District students participating in sports and/or any extracurricular activity, or who have a school parking permit are subject to random drug and alcohol testing, as established in 2010. Random drug testing of non-participating students is also available if the district receives a parental request.Students must provide a signed parental consent form before participating.For the 2012-2013 school year, initial registration/testing will take place in the athletic center locker rooms of the middle school between 8 to noon, on the following dates: July 31, male students; Aug. 1, female students.Any student who cannot attend on the dates provided should contact Mike Hromyak, athletic director at (570) 668-1901 or mhromyak@tamaqua.k12.pa.us for other arrangements.Becoming part of the random selection process is necessary before participating in any activities.More information is provided on the school district website under athletics.Calvary Evangelical UMCAll services will be held at the Lewistown Tabernacle, 614 Valley Road in Tamaqua, through and including Sept. 3. Services will be lead by Pastor Dr. Edward L. Bean, with sermon titled "Don't feel like praying?"Sunday: Sunday school classes for tiny tots to all senior adults will be held 9:15 a.m. Praise and worship with music and singing starts at 10:25 a.m. Includes special music selected by Harry Ostrander, accordionist from Souderton. Praise, worship and bible study will start at 6:30 p.m. with Pastor Bean's message "An Enriching Habit."Following, at 7 p.m., everyone is encouraged to join the group in an hour of praise and prayer.
