A look back: Sept. 13, 1959

An estimated 3,500 people heard the Rev. Charles B. Mynaugh, director of the Philadelphia Archdiocese Holy Name Union, speak on the letter from His Eminence John Cardinal O’Hara to Catholics of the diocese, directing that the feast of Our Mother of Sorrows be set aside as a day of prayer and reparation dedicated to “the needs of America.”

Father Mynaugh appeared as the main speaker for the fourth annual Holy Name Society Holy Hour and rally held at the Summit Hill High School Stadium.

The event was sponsored by the Regional Union Holy Name Societies of Carbon and Schuylkill counties.
