A candidate who won the nomination in the primary election as a candidate for council in Tamaqua on the Democratic ballot withdrew his name and was replaced by a candidate named by the Democratic Party.
Joseph R. Salla, 204 Owl Creek Rd., won nomination for the council seat in the primary but withdrew his name later as he had changed his party registration from Democratic to Republican.The Democratic Party then selected Justin Startzel, 120 Hunter St., who is a recent Tamaqua Area High School graduate, to be the party's candidate for the council seat in the Nov. 3 General Election. Startzel is 20 years old.Election Director Frannie Brennan said the resignation and replacement occurred in the proper time frame under the state election code.
