A morgage-burning program was conducted at the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company only five years after the mortgage was obtained. Harry Solt, a trustee of the fire company, placed a cigarette lighter beneath the mortgage envelope and set it on fire, indicating fulfillment of the $90,000 mortgage. In addition, Hattie Lear presented a check for $4,088 on behalf of the auxiliary, marking the final payment for a new truck the fire company purchased last year.
