Hurricane Hazel whirled maddingly through the region in a devastating six-hour dervish tonight, doing extensive damage, especially in the area of Mauch Chunk from Susquehanna Street to Market Square and Lehigh Avenue. In Mauch Chunk heavy damage occurred to Cossman's Service Station, Ralph Diehl's property, Schwartz Brothers Store, the former Central Hotel Building, Court House, Asa Packer Home, and Leonardis Building. At Cossman's the roof was completely ripped off.
