Local Sports Roundup: Oct. 3
Lehighton picked up field hockey and girls soccer victories on Monday. With the win, the Indians’ field hockey squad qualified for district playoffs.
FIELD HOCKEY
ES North-Lehighton
Lehighton ran away with a 7-0 victory over East Stroudsburg North.
Maura Phelan led the Tribe with a pair of goals. Lauren Marks, Alison Miller, Gabby Szozda, Makenzie Hoats, and Kyle Kresge each scored for the Indians (9-4).
Szozda and Karissa Hough each added a pair of assists, while Hoats and Marks contributed one.
With the win, Lehighton clinched a district playoff berth.
No. Lehigh-Saucon Vy.
Northern Lehigh blanked Saucon Valley in Colonial League action, 2-0.
Jada Mills had a goal and an assist for the Bulldogs.
Hailey Evans also scored, and Olivia Romig added an assist.
Freedom-Northwestern
Northwestern defeated Freedom in non-league action, 1-0.
Rachel Koerner scored for the Tigers at the 22-minute mark of the first half, as Northwestern had seven total shots on goal during the win.
GIRLS SOCCER
Catsauqua-Lehighton
Lehighton blanked Catasauqua 2-0 in non-league play.
Aubrey Blasiak scored both goals for the Indians.
The winners received an assist from Ashley Marchessault, while goalie Julia Frey made 17 saves.
Pleasant Vy.-PM East
Pleasant Valley picked up a 3-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Pocono Mountain East.
Teah Cardoza, Morgan Covart, and Brianna Clark all scored for PV.
Addison Borger added an assist, while keeper Mikaela Miller saved eight shots.
Northwestern-No. Dame GP
Northwestern rolled by Notre Dame-GP in a Colonial League contest, 8-1.
Jessica Williamson, Bailey Groff, and Margaret Motolese each had two goals for the Tigers. Abigail Chisdak and Sara Hathaway also scored.
Groff added an assist, while keeper McKenna Amey had four saves.
BOYS SOCCER
Jim Thorpe-Pine Grove
Jim Thorpe edged Pine Grove in a Schuylkill League game, 1-0.
Thor Huth scored for the Olympians in overtime to secure the victory.
Preston Lawrence and Chris Williams had assists on the game-winning tally, while keeper Kingsley Ehling made 13 saves.
Palisades-Palmerton
Palmerton edged Palisades 1-0 in a Colonial League match.
Bryce Beahm scored for the Bombers, while Ryan Yacone had 11 saves.
VOLLEYBALL
Pleasant Vy.-ES North
Pleasant Valley topped East Stroudsburg North in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference contest 25-15, 25-13, 25-11.
Arianna Weaver paced the Bears with 13 digs and six digs. Cameron Caffrey added 19 assists, while Renee Mapa had nine kills.
Tamaqua-Catasauqua
Tamaqua earned a non-league victory against Catasauqua, 25-12, 25-17, 25-2.
Kaitlyn Stauffenberg had 15 assists, five kills, and five digs for the Raiders. Savannah Adams added four kills and Amy Hadesty had three.

7TH GRADE
Jim Thorpe-Weatherly
Jim Thorpe defeated Weatherly, 29-12.
Ashley Pleban scored seven points, while Christal Kislan chipped in four for the Wreckers (2-1).
Kenzie Yuhas led Jim Thorpe with 16 points. Gabby Cinicola had six.
8TH GRADE
Tamaqua-Panther Vy.
Tamaqua defeated Panther Valley, 32-26.
Serena Jones finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Raiders. Zoe Seltzer had eight points and eight rebounds.
For PV, Robin tallied a team-high 13 points.
