Rudy leads Tamaqua to soccer win

Katelyn Rudy had a big game to lead Tamaqua to a girls soccer victory over Lehighton on Wednesday

Lehighton-Tamaqua

Tamaqua scored three unanswered goals to clam a 3-1 Schuylkill League Division I win over Lehighton.

Katelyn Rudy scored the first two goals for the Blue Raiders (5-6-1), and Jamie Zuber added the final goal. Kayla Sherry had two assists for Tamaqua. Flo Rios made six saves.

The Indians got on the board first on a Thera Hibler goal.

FIELD HOCKEY

Palmerton-Salisbury

Salisbury pulled away from Palmerton for a 4-1 Colonial League win.

Madison Jewell scored twice for the Falcons, who found the back of the cage three times in the second half.

Sayler Burke had the Bleu Bombers’ only goal.

CROSS COUNTRY

Lehighton, Pottsville

at Tamaqua

Lehighton and Tamaqua competed in a three-team Schuylkill League meet.

The Tamaqua girls went 2-0, while Lehighton finished 1-1.

Sarah Maue won the girls’ race with a time of 21:42. Teammates Kailee Carroll and Frances Kabana finished second and third, respectively. Lehighton’s Kelsey Gaston finished fourth.

The Raider boys also finished a perfect 2-0, and the Lehighton boys went 1-1.

Tamaqua’s Brad Clemson was victorious with a time of 18:33. Lehighton’s Anthony Tavella finished second, while teammate Evan Beers came in third.

Lehighton and Panther Valley fought to a 0-0 tie on Monday.

The Indians’ Richard Christman had the defensive play of the game as he broke up the fourth down Panther Valley pass at the goal line in the final minutes to preserve the tie.

Lehighton is 2-1-1, while PV is 2-2-1.

Tamaqua defeated Shenandoah, 39-31.

Serena Jones had 14 points, and Ashley Jones added nine to lead the Raiders.
