Hazleton man gets house arrest for five theft counts
A Hazleton man, who was charged in connection with five retail thefts from Walmart Store in Rush Township, was placed on house arrest and seven area residents were among 31 who entered guilty pleas in Schuylkill County court this week. All appeared before President Judge William E. Baldwin.
Chris Planutis, 29, of 338 North St., Hazleton, pleaded to the five counts of retail theft from Walmart Store. In lieu of serving four to 23 months in the county prison Baldwin placed him on house arrest with electronic monitoring and pay a daily $12 fee for program cost and submit to drug and alcohol evaluation and successfully complete any recommended treatment.His house arrest begins Monday, Aug. 29. Ridge St., Nesquehoning, criminal attempt to commit possession of a controlled substance (CS) by altering a doctor's prescription, was placed on probation for 12 months and ordered to pay $50 to Criminal Justice Enhancement Account (CJEA).On a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia was given a concurrent sentence.
