Youth Soccer sign-ups

Panther Valley Youth Soccer Association will be holding spring season sign-ups on Wednesday, Feb. 8; Tuesday, Feb. 14; and Thursday, Feb. 16, from 6-8 p.m., at McDonald's in Nesquehoning.There is a sign up fee. Each family is required to participate in the fundraiser or could choose a buyout. Fees are due at the time of registration. All members are urged to attend.Summit HillMini-pantry plannedThe Summit Hill Food Pantry, headquartered in the Heritage Center at Hazard and Chestnut streets, will hold a mini-pantry (distribution) of nonperishable food commodities on Tuesday, Feb. 14.The food will be distributed from 10-11 a.m. Those who are eligible for the items are asked to be prompt and to bring sturdy tote bags with them to help carry the food.The regular monthly pantry distribution will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 10 a.m. to noon. The doors will open promptly at 10 o'clock. Those attending are asked to bring tote bags for "extras."Persons who receive the food "boxes" are asked to note no telephone call reminders will be made. In the event there is a change in pantry hours due to snowstorms, etc., the recipients will be notified by telephone. Rosemarie Armon, pantry director, is maintaining an up-to-date roster with telephone numbers of regular recipients. Anyone whose contact information changes is required to notify her of that information.Scripture sharingSt. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will continue its weekly scripture sharing sessions tonight.The sessions are held on Wednesday evenings at 7 o'clock in the parish rectory.LansfordBorough councilThe Lansford Borough Council will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 6:30 p.m. in the Lansford Community Center. Rosemary Cannon, president, will be in charge of the session.AMVETS to meetMembers of the AMVETS Post 83, Lansford, will meet on Sunday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Post Home. Commander Perry Shelton will be in charge of the session, during which time a visit by State Commander Lynn Hamsher will take place.Hamsher was sworn in as the state commander during the 66th annual convention held last June, when the Pennsylvania's AMVETS organization made history in electing its first female commander.The 47-year-old commander hails from Fayetteville, Franklin County.Following the meeting of the post, the Home Association will hold a meeting.
