The music of Broadway came to Jim Thorpe Thursday night as the fourth round of competition for the title of "Jim Thorpe Idol" for 2009 was held in the auditorium of Jim Thorpe Area High School.
The number of remaining hopefuls for this round had been whittled down to nine with the elimination of contestant No. 15, Maria Plavin, and No.21, Alexis Young from the competition.One more round of eliminations will be held next Thursday evening, Oct. 15th, at 7 p.m. in the JTAHS auditorium with the final competition for the title of Jim Thorpe Idol for 2009 being held on Saturday, Oct. 24th with a final field of five competitors.While all of the contestants gave sterling performances last night, contestant No. 13-Kellee Jo Kleintop's moving performance of the song "Memories" in memory of her Mother earned a standing ovation from all present.In addition to the title of Jim Thorpe Idol, the eventual lucky winner will receive a trophy, a $250 prize that goes with it, and the opportunity to perform in a 30 second television commercial produced by VIAMEDIA, a Lehigh Valley based Cable Television Advertising Agency, under the assistance of Angela Nardini & the Producers at Icarus Communications in Bethlehem.The Jim Thorpe Idol commercial will be aired during a 5 week run beginning on Monday, November 23rd until Sunday, December 27th, 2009 and will be seen on eleven cable network channels on Blue Ridge Communications in the Carbon County area.
