Want to find a new furry friend?
On Sunday, from noon until 4 p.m. at the Lehighton Grove on Seventh Street, the Mahoning Township Lions Club, in conjunction with Amazing Grace Spay/Neuter Program, will hold a fall animal adoption day and pet costume contest.During the four-hour event, pet owners and potential adopters can visit with animal rescue shelters, including Hazleton Animal Shelter, Cats Peek, Friends of Pep, Waggin' Tails, and Safe Haven, to see if they can find a new pet. Numerous cats and dogs will be on hand. There will also be entertainment, refreshments and spay and neuter information and applications."We're doing this event because millions of dogs and cats are euthanized every year because of the pet over population problem," said Thomas A. Zimmerman IV, president of the Mahoning Township Lions Club. "We are hoping to find homes for a wide variety of dogs and cats which will be in attendance on Sunday. We also want to encourage people to get there dogs and cats spayed and neutered."A pet costume contest will also be held at 2 p.m. at the grove. Proceeds from the contest will benefit the spay and neuter program. For more information on the event, call Zimmerman at (570) 645-6536 or Dr. Mary Lombardo (570) 386-3088.
