St. John Neumann students to hold annual Walk-A-Thon

They'll meander throughout town with pride as they attempt to raise money for their precious St. John Neumann Regional School.

Once again, students from both the Palmerton and Slatington campuses will participate in the school's annual Walk-A-Thon at 10 a.m. Oct. 23.The theme of this year's event is Super Science for Super Kids, according to Lisa Edgar, who along with her husband, Mark, are the event coordinators. The day will get under way with mass at Sacred Heart Church in Palmerton.Afterwards, the students will then assemble in the gym of the school's Palmerton campus for warm-up exercises prior to the walk.Next, students in grades K-3 will follow a path around the borough park, while students in grades 4-8 will follow a route through and around the town. After lunch, the students will hear a presentation in conjunction with the theme of the event.Lisa Edgar said the purpose of the event is to combine fun with education."In addition to raising money for our school, we want this to be a fun and educational day for our students," she said. "And, also, to help maintain the strong bond between our school and our community."The event is the Home-School Association's major fundraiser of the school year, Lisa Edgar said.
