“The Day of the Rope” was a dark day for Irish coal miners in Pennsylvania in 1877. That’s when multiple men, accused of being members of the Molly Maguires, were hung in several locations in the state, including in Jim Thorpe and Pottsville.
Local historian and playwright Bobby Maso created a play based on the last three days of these men’s lives. It will be presented as part of the Tamaqua Heritage Festival Oct. 8.
Performed by the Tamaqua Heritage Players, the play will be presented at 1:30 p.m. at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St., Tamaqua.
