A 17-year-old Albrightsville teenager is being tried as an adult on charges he raped his "best friend."
Rashon Tallek Venable, of Meckesville Road, allegedly committed the forcible act at another friend's Penn Forest Township home on May 27 sometime between 7 p.m. and midnight.District Judge Edward Lewis of Jim Thorpe, following a preliminary hearing, ordered all charges against Venable be forwarded to Carbon County Court. Venable is lodged in Carbon County Prison in lieu of $50,000, 10 percent bail.Venable has been charged with rape, sexual assault, two counts of aggravated indecent assault, two counts of indecent assault, and criminal attempt rape.Trooper Eric Temarantz of the Fern Ridge barracks of the state police is the arresting officer.According to testimony, the victim went to a friend's house to hang out. Besides the friend, Venable was also present.The victim described Venable as "her best friend," according to the affidavit.Venable allegedly asked the victim to enter a guest room "so they could speak in private." Once in the room, Venable allegedly tried to kiss the victim, who then attempted to leave the room.The affidavit says Venable grabbed the girl, tossed her on the bed, and raped her.She told police she told Venable "no" and to stop, and that she also struggled. Venable allegedly placed his hand over her mouth to prevent her from screaming.The affidavit says she pinched Venable "really hard" and was able to scream because he moved his hand from her mouth. At that point, Venable allegedly got off of her and she ran from the room.
