Chief of Police Ken Barnes of Mahoning Township said that as a reminder to motorists, the 30 day grace period that began on Sept. 8, where warnings are given for exceeding the 15mph speed limit in a school zone, ends on FRIDAY Oct. 9.
Beginning Friday, Mahoning Township Police will begin to issue traffic citations to violators. Exceeding the speed limit in a school zone is subject to heavy fines and points.Since Sept. 8, police officers have issued over 50 written or verbal warnings to drivers disobeying the 15 mph speed limit, which is between 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. AND 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Route 902 at the Mahoning Valley Elementary School.
