Sign in by 10:30 a.m. for the next day's lunch.Monday: Center closed.Tuesday: YahtzeeWednesday: Pay BingoThursday: Name That TuneFriday: ExerciseMonday, Sept. 8: Horse racingTuesday, Sept. 9: Independent Living Services Bingo at 10:45 a.m.Wednesday, Sept. 10: Now You Have It, Now You Don'tThursday, Sept. 11: Senior Fair 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jim Thorpe Memorial HallFriday, Sept. 12: ExerciseVFW LadiesAuxiliaryThe regular monthly meeting and annual picnic of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 was held Aug. 10.President Cheri Santore presided at the session.A thank-you note was read from Meed's Church for the donation to the children's summer lunch program.Donations were made to Operation Uplink, MAP, Unmet needs and the Erie Diabetes Walk.The Fall Conference was held from Aug. 15-17 and a joint District 20 meeting was held Aug. 17.The National Auxiliary President will visit Pennsylvania from Sept. 4 -7.The themes for the Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen have been received and will be sent to the local schools.The 2015 Pennsylvania Department Convention will be in Gettysburg in June.The National Convention, which Pennsylvania will host, will be held in Pittsburgh in next July and a Pennsylvania native will be installed as the National Commander in Chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.Nesquehoning will host the Veterans Day Parade this year on Nov. 9.Due to the date of the parade, the November Auxiliary meeting will be held a week later, at 1 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Post Home.A sign-up sheet will be posted at the Post Home for a Poppy Queen and King. Children and grandchildren of all members between the ages of 4-12 are eligible.The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Post Home.All members are encouraged to become involved in the organization.Dues for 2015 are now payable. Auxiliary dues will be raised for 2015, but the old rate will be honored until Dec. 15.Summit HillFlag programThe Summit Hill Lions Club is continuing its American flag program. Throughout the good weather months, the flag will fly in Ludlow Park in memory or honor of veterans from the community.Family members of veterans, or veterans themselves, can request to be scheduled by contacting Joseph O'Gurek at 570-645-5171.During the week of Sept. 1, the flag will fly in memory of Stanley Snyder.He was an Air Force veteran, having attained the rank of staff sergeant. He entered the military in 1948 and was stationed in Alaska, and was later discharged from Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois in 1952.Stanley would have celebrated his 85th birthday on Sept. 6.
