The Lehighton Area High School Choral Department will present its 97th annual Spring Choral Concert on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The program will feature members of the Concert Choir, Music Express, Sextet, and Varsity Voices.The concert is titled "An Afternoon of Pop Music" and will feature popular music selections from the recent past. A donation will be collected at the door to help support the program.The Concert Choir is a mixed choir and will perform hits by Eric Clapton, The Lumineers, Phillip Phillips, Queen, and Carrie Underwood. The selections will cover popular music from the 1950s through the recent hits of today.The Women's Choir will be performing "Landslide" originally recorded by Fleetwood Mac in 1975 and the Men's Choir will perform "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" made popular by the Tokens in 1961.Varsity Voices is an auditioned vocal jazz ensemble which is the newest ensemble to the choral program. This mixed ensemble will perform a selection originally performed by Three Dog Night in 1973 and the theme song to the iconic show, "Charlie Brown" (1956).Music Express is an auditioned show choir which performs popular music and music from the Broadway stage. This year the award-winning choir will sing music originally performed by Adele, Doobie Brothers, Florence and the Machine, Lady Gaga, Glee, Ellie Goulding, One Direction, Pink, and Tina Turner. This group of 22 singers will entertain you musically and visually.The choirs are under the direction of David Perkins and accompanied by Emily Cerimele and Noah Williams on piano. The doors will open 30 minutes before the concert and a donation will be accepted at the door.
