A Carbon County woman pleaded guilty on Thursday in Carbon County court to one count of involuntary manslaughter in the overdose death of a man.

Felicia Ann Bower, 21, of Nesquehoning, admitted she injected Kenneth James Kowalski, 44, with heroin on Dec. 1, 2008, at a residence along Coal St., in Nesquehoning, and he later died. An autopsy determined Kowalski died of adverse alcohol and drug effects.Bower was also originally charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin, drug delivery resulting in death, possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.According to the arrest report, Bower and Kowalski met with another person near the Turkey Hill in the borough and purchased nine bags of heroin. The three then went to a home along Coal St. At the residence Bower and Kowalski went to an upstairs bedroom where they "cooked" the heroin. She then injected a quantity of the drug into Kowalski.A short time later Kowalski became unresponsive. Bower called for medical assistance but Kowalski died at the scene.Assistant District Attorney Joseph Matika said the family of the victim agreed to the plea bargain in which Bower would plea to the involuntary manslaughter charge with all other counts dropped.President Judge Roger N. Nanovic accepted the plea but deferred sentencing and ordered a presentence investigation be prepared by the adult probation office.
