Seeing Amish folks in Lansford is as common as seeing cows in Manhattan. It doesn't happen often.

For the past two days, though, a group of Amish construction workers were employed to erect a new, three-bay garage for Mark Krajcirik, adjacent to Krajcirik's Automotive on West Patterson Street.They had high visibility since the garage is in the downtown sector of the community along busy Route 209. The site resembled an old-fashioned Amish barn raising.It took only two days to complete the project."I saw the frame being put up yesterday morning and by last night the walls, roof and doors were on," said a passer-by this morning in a Summit Hill mini mart.Toby Krajcirik said it would have taken just one day to erect, but the Amish aren't used to working in such confined spaces.Omar Kauffman, one of the employees, said the work is being done by S & L Construction of Jersey Shore, Lycoming County.He said this is his first time working in Carbon County, but the firm periodically gets jobs in the Poconos.The workers were meticulous in their wood construction, measuring accurately, using power tools to make their cuts, and often scaling the frame without ladders.The new building will be used by Krajcirik Automotive. It also will be utilized for the storage of a truck owned by Evans Fuel Oil, where Toby Krajcirik is employed.
