Church as a verb

The Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network will host a free showing of the film "When God Left the Building" this Saturday at the New Life Assembly of God Church, 407 Schuylkill Ave.The film presentation will begin at 1 p.m. and is hoped to stimulate discussion on how area congregations can more effectively reach out to the community.The free presentation has been made possible thanks to generous contributions from several Tamaqua congregations and organizations.For more information, or to make a reservation, contact

Kathleen Valentine provided an inspirational reading, "Autumn Stillness."Treasurer Shirley Becker and secretary Ruthann Feane provided their reports. May Schock and George Carvello were added to the sick list.Warm welcomes were given to new member Merle Andescavage and returning member Paul Kunkle. Birthday greetings were offered to Carol Sedlak. Entertainment was provided by Shirley Becker and Ruthann Feane.The annual Christmas party will be held on Dec. 9.The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the fire company.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Spirit of ChristmasTamaqua's Spirit of Christmas committee will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday at the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce office on West Broad Street. New members are always welcome.Zion LewistownPastor Jim Williams will officiate at this Sunday's service in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.Also, Sunday is the deadline for candy orders and the next scheduled game night.Upcoming events include: Tuesday, fundraiser committee meets at 6:30 p.m., preschool board meets at 7:30 p.m.Calvary EvangelicalThe Rev. Dr. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include a special tribute to veterans. Sunday school classes are held at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, a time of Bible study and praise will be held at 6:30 p.m.A time of praise and prayer will be held at 7 p.m. next Wednesday at the home of Carl and Marge Heisler.
