Tamaqua police have released details of a pedestrian versus vehicle accident in the borough on Thursday morning.
According to the police report, Paula Bower, 41, of 224 W. High St., Coaldale, was backing out of a parking spot at the Turkey Hill Minute Mart, 330 E. Broad St., when she heard a loud bang. Bower stopped her vehicle and looked, but couldn't see anyone/anything in her field of vision. A witness, Michael Vadyak of Tamaqua, agreed with Bower.However, a man, identified as Jeffrey Nietz, 52, of 107 E. High St., Coaldale, was found lying on the ground in the parking lot, approximately five feet from the vehicle. Nietz complained of head and back pain and was transported to St. Luke's University Hospital - Miner's Campus, Coaldale, in the Tamaqua Community Ambulance.
