New Tripoli native Cole Miller will play in the final stage of Web.com Tour qualifying this weekend in Chandler, Arizona.
Miller is part of a field of 138 golfers that will tee it up at Devils Claw and The Cattail courses in hopes of earning status on the Web.com Tour, which is one level below the PGA Tour.
Miller, a 2017 graduate of Penn State University, turned pro last spring and within a few weeks he was competing on the Mackenzie Canadian PGA Tour while managing to qualify for last year’s US Open.
He used a four-round sponsor exemption to earn full-time status on Mackenzie Tour then finished high enough there to go straight to the second stage of Web.com qualifying.
Miller, a graduate of Northwestern Lehigh High School, finished 13th at the Web.com qualifying event, shooting rounds of 67, 68, 67 and 71 to finish at 11-under par at Plantation National Preserve Golf Course in Plantation, Fla.
If he keeps up his good play this weekend, Miller can earn a place on next year’s Web.com Tour. This weekend’s winner will be awarded full status on next year’s tour, while the second through 10th place finishers earn a place on the tour through the third reshuffle. The 11th-40th finishers will be exempt through the Web.com Tour’s second reshuffle. Anyone finishing below that will have conditional status on the Web.com as well one of the PGA’s other developmental circuit’s, such as the Mackenzie, Latinomerica or China tours.
From the Web.com Tour, Miller could earn a chance to qualify for the PGA Tour.
