Seven people entered guilty pleas on Monday in Carbon County court to driving under the influence and related charges.

Judge Steven R. Serfass accepted the pleas from the following:

Stephen A. Griffith Sr.

, 52, of Lehighton, pleaded to DUI in one case. He was arrested on Nov. 8, 2015, by state police at Lehighton along First Street in Lehighton. He refused a test.

He also pleaded to hindering apprehension for an incident on April 12, 2015, in the 200 block of South Second Street following a vehicle stop by Lehighton police.

He also pleaded to possession of drug paraphernalia for an incident on Jan. 18 following a traffic stop by Lehighton police.

Sentencing was deferred so Griffith can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation for the DUI charge.

Adam Robert Smith

, 38, of Scranton, was arrested on Aug. 11, 2017, along the turnpike in Penn Forest Township by state police at the Pocono barracks. A test revealed a 0.28 BAC.

He also pleaded to endangering the welfare of a child. When stopped for speeding and found to be driving while impaired, troopers found a 5-year-old child in the vehicle.

Sentencing was deferred and a presentence investigation report was ordered to be prepared by the adult probation office.

Tyler James Behler

, 21, of Lehighton, was arrested on June 16 in the 1300 block of Mauch Chunk Road by Palmerton police after being involved in a crash. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred so Behler can apply for placement in the county’s Intermediate Punishment Program, house arrest.

Jason Charles McFarland

, 41, of Walnutport, was arrested on April 7, 2017, along Delaware Avenue by Palmerton police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

He also pleaded to a charge of persistent disorderly conduct for an incident on April 11 in the area of 590 Mauch Chunk Road, filed by Palmerton police. He and another man were found fighting at that location.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation for the DUI charge.

William Hierro Morfa

, 22, of Hazleton, was arrested on April 9 along Bankway by Lehighton police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

He was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, license suspended for a year, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee and render 25 hours of community service.

He will begin the jail term on Sept. 23 at 9 a.m.

Brett Fortna

, 30, of Milford, Pike County, was arrested on July 29 by Lehighton police along Route 443. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

At the stop police found Fortna in possession of brass knuckles and a Glock .40-caliber handgun. He pleaded to one count of make repairs/sell/offensive weapon for the brass knuckles. A charge of firearms not to be carried without a license, concerning the handgun, was dropped in a plea bargain. Police also noted the car Fortna was driving had New Jersey registration plates but a Pennsylvania inspection sticker. In all, he was originally charged with 10 counts.

Serfass deferred sentencing so Fortna can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation for the DUI charge.

Randy Earl Miller

, 37, of Lehighton, was arrested on Feb. 4 by Lehighton police along Route 443. A test revealed a 0.14 BAC.

Sentencing was deferred so Miller can obtain a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation.
