Carbon County court

A Palmerton man entered guilty pleas to aggravated and simple assault charges this week in Carbon County court and was immediately sentenced to a county prison term.

He was one of five defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Domestic incident

Jeffrey Evan Fisher

, 58, was sentenced to serve nine to one day less 24 months in prison on the charges. He was arrested by state police at Lehighton for an incident on Aug. 15, 2018, at a residence along Little Gap Road in Lower Towamensing Township, where he assaulted a female in what was termed a domestic dispute.

Additionally, he was ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and have no contact with the victim.

An inmate in the county prison, he was given credit for 180 days already served.

Other pleas

Nathan Thomas Brewster

, 22, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced to serve three to 18 months in the county prison on charges of possession of a controlled substance and acquiring or obtaining possession of a controlled substance by misrepresentation. He was arrested on Dec. 17, 2018, by state police at Lehighton when they were called to a Prospect Street residence in Weissport just before 4:30 p.m. for a reported domestic dispute. A female victim said Brewster assaulted her at the residence. Drugs were found at the scene and attributed to Brewster. Assault counts were dropped in a plea bargain.

An inmate in the county prison, he was given credit for 56 days already served. He must also get a drug and alcohol evaluation and have no contact with the victim.

Matthew Darryl Muchmore II

, 50, of Lehighton, was sentenced to serve four to 18 months in the county prison on a receiving stolen property charge. The prison term will be followed by 18 months probation. He was arrested on Dec. 9, 2015, by state police at Fern Ridge. He was previously placed in the county’s Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but revoked from it for violating conditions.

He was also ordered to make restitution of $5,825 and supply a DNA sample.

Melissa Waldron

, 34, of Wilkes-Barre, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested by Kidder Township police on May 11, 2017, following a vehicle stop.

She was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and zero tolerance imposed for drug or alcohol use.

Angelo Frank Becker

, 32, of Lehighton, pleaded to a summary offense of driving an unregistered vehicle. He was arrested on Nov. 27, 2017, along Route 248 at Bowmanstown by state police at Lehighton. He was originally charged with driving under the influence, but that count was dismissed.

He was fined $75 and costs.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
