Theater auditions
The Tamaqua Area Community Theatre will be holding open auditions for its upcoming production of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee." Actors 12 and older are needed.A one-minute monologue and a 30-second song are needed for the audition. All other hours will remain as stated on the tax bill.Senior citizensThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met May 21 at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St. The meeting was attended by 79 members.President Melody Weicker conducted the business session and secretary Ruthann Feane provided the inspirational reading, "Postcards From Heaven."Two new members, Helene Kellner and Esther Stefocik were welcomed.The meeting included a candle lighting ceremony, memorializing deceased members: Marlene Lodor, Jayne Meyers, Kenneth Reed, Jean Everett, Harry Heffelfinger, Francis Hinkle, Jean Hromyak, Josephine Willing, Marion Halpin, Ruth Kemmerer, George Millet and Robert Betz.Upcoming activities will include a trip to the Mohegan Sun on June 15; farm market vouchers to be distributed on June 17 at the Tamaqua Salvation Army; and flu shots to be given in September.The group meets at 1 p.m. every Thursday. The next meeting will be on May 28.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The YMCA is handicap accessible.Garden workshopThe Schuylkill County Penn State Master Gardeners program will conduct a walking workshop designed to help residents improve their gardening skills.The walk will be held on May 30, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Tuscarora State Park.Anyone interested in participating in this 1-mile hike, along an easy trail, is to meet at the Day Use Area before 10 a.m.Naturalist Robin Tracy and several master gardeners will point out the native plants and provide information on how they can be used in the home garden.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.
