After encountering mold in a number of buildings this summer, the Pleasant Valley School District is remaining alert to any signs of its return.
Mold was found in a few areas of the high school and the elementary school, but Pleasant Valley Intermediate School was hit hard by the mold and needed to be cleaned thoroughly.
“There have been no new issues since the remediation of PVI,” district Superintendent David Piperato said. “We continue to use industrial dehumidifiers throughout the building to help with the moisture, and will do so until the beginning of the heating season.”
Piperato said the board is considering options to avoid similar problems in the future. He said that would include the complete HVAC system as well as the roof, windows and masonry. The roof is scheduled to be resurfaced next summer.
The district delayed the start of the school year by a day to make sure all of the schools were safe. The intermediate school remained closed to staff and students until the remediation was complete. All school are now open and functioning normally.
The cost of the full remediation has yet to be determined.
