A Brooklyn, New York, resident was sentenced in Carbon County court to serve a state prison term for corruption of a minor.
Gabriel E. Roldan, 30, who also has a Palmerton address, was sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to serve 15 months to 5 years in a state correction institution. He previously pleaded guilty to the charge admitting having inappropriate contact with a young girl.Roldan was arrested by Palmerton police for an incident on July 18, 2014, in the 900 block of Mauch Chunk Street.A then 13-year-old girl said that she was in an apartment when she woke up and found Roldan touching her inappropriately. In a plea bargain with the district attorney's office, two counts of aggravated sexual assault and indecent assault were dropped. At the time of the plea hearing, Nanovic rejected a plea bargain in which Roldan would be sentenced to a county prison term of 1 to 2 years, less a day. After consulting with his attorney Adam Weaver, Roldan, who has been in prison since his arrest, told Nanovic he would enter his plea and accept the court's decision.Additionally, Nanovic said Roldan must register with the state police as a sexual offender under the provisions of Megan's Law for 15 years. He also ordered the defendant to supply a DNA sample, must undergo a sexual offenders evaluation, get both a drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, and pay court costs of about $1,000.He was given credit for 559 days already spent in jail on the charges. Although he has served his minimum his release date will be up to state prison officials.
