Band presents concert under the stars tonight
Tonight at 8 the Lehighton Band will present their second summer concert "Under The Stars" for the 2015 season in the Lehighton Park Amphitheater.
The opening march will be "Heroes Of The Pacific" written by Charles E. Fronheiser. Fronheiser wrote this march in the early 1950s when he was the conductor of the Lehighton Boys Band.He was also a former conductor of the Lehighton Band. The Lehighton Band is the only band to have a copy of this unpublished march and it is a real toe-tapper. This will be followed by Leroy Anderson's "The Irish Washerwoman" from his "Irish Suite." This lively melody will surely please the audience and put the band through its paces. The soloist for the evening will be Earl Knappenberger playing the baritone solo "Love's Old Sweet Song." Earl has been a member of the Lehighton Band for a number of years and will delight especially the older members of the audience with a tune they will remember from their youth. Also on the program will be a very beautiful arrangement of "Amazing Grace" as played by the United States Marine Band. In honor of all veterans, the band will play "Armed Forces Salute," a medley of the service songs from all branches of the U.S. military."Henry Mancini at the Oscars" will feature three songs from the movies. They will be "The Pink Panther," "Charade" and Le Jazz Hot!"In "The Good Old USA" the audience will hear a number of familiar tunes including "A Bicycle Built for Two," "In My Merry Oldsmobile." "Mary's a Grand Old Name" and several other songs.Since this is the Independence Day week, the band will play several patriotic tunes including a rhapsody on America the Beautiful titled "Amber Waves of Grain" and two Sousa marches: "U.S. Field Artillery March" and "The Stars and Stripes Forever."This concert will be held rain or shine.
